Travertines are sedimentary rocks made in the crust of the Earth as a result of the agglomeration of various sediments. Travertines arose in places where limestone massifs were infiltrated by underground water. Carbon dioxide, escaping from water, causes this characteristic porous surface. The colour diversity results from the impurity of iron oxides and other elements.
Travertines are applied in interiors and elevations; they are used in the production of wall linings, floors, stairs, fireplaces and window sills.
