How to check if PVC windows are warm?

Window frame and pane properties have a crucial effect on thermal parameters of PVC windows. Heat losses mainly occur in the weakest parts of the system, namely the frames.

PVC WINDOW frames

The U-value is the result of the combination of the following:

  • profile width (more than 70 mm recommended)
  • number of chambers (optimally 4 or 5)
  • material of the reinforcements inside the frame

Reinforcement material

The properties of reinforcement material have a crucial effect on thermal parameters. The standard reinforcements are made of steel, which is a heat conductor and worsens window parameters.

PVC profile width and number of chambers

The most popular PVC windows in the market are made from the 3-chamber profile. The frame thermal conductivity coefficient (the U-value) for this profile is 1.95 W/m 2K. Nevertheless, with energy prices constantly rising, these windows do not guarantee low heating bills.

That is why, in order to improve window thermal parameters, PVC profile manufacturers have started to utilise systems with additional chambers. Widening the profile and adding a fourth, and then a fifth chamber has brought a clear improvement to the insulation value.

Thermal conductivity of the MSline and SEVENline PVC windows frame (a wide 5-chamber 73 mm profile) is 1.5 W/m 2K. The improvement of the frame’s U-value in relation to 3-chamber profiles is around 19%.

We are Poland’s sole manufacturers of the most efficient solution: TITANthermo PVC windows. These windows are based on the revolutionary technology of warm WINDOWS. The standard metal reinforcements in the window frame are replaced here with the MS Thermal System. This frame’s thermal conductivity coefficient is 1.1 W/m 2K (PN-EN ISO 10077-2:2005).

Panes

Panes are an important part of the window which largely contributes to the thermal insulation value. Panes that well keep heat inside the compartment have the U-value of 1.1 W/m 2K or lower. As a standard, we equip all our MS windows with the thermo pane whose U-value is 1.1 W/m 2K (PN-EN 674:1999).

New on our offer is the SUPERthermo pane, whose U-value is 0.5 W/m 2K (PN-EN 674:1999). The pane fitted in the window frame is actually a set of three 4-mm-thick panes, with the space between them filled with argon. The outer pane’s thermo coating additionally helps keep warmth inside. The whole set is 40 mm thick. thermo PVC WINDOWS equipped with these new panes are characterized by outstanding parameters, and are still very good value for money.

We recommend installing TITANthermo PVC windows wherever there is a need to cut high heating costs and to carry out thermal modernization: detached houses, multi-family buildings, blocks of flats, institution buildings and energy-efficient houses.

The savings made have been noticed and appreciated by a large group of our customers. The MS windows are to be found, among others, in Germany, the Netherlands, Sweden, Iceland, the UK and the USA.
